You certainly come up with very ambitious ideas. I would play with shadows and reflections to unify the figures. I like the simplicity of the background and you should try and keep it. Take a look a Jack Vettriano’s painting “The Billy Boys”. It may give you an idea on how to treat the foreground etc. I saw the more up to date painting. Good job Di.
I just received two painting commissions. Moved the studio. Have not painted in quite a while, but will this weekend.

How about some activity in the backround sand, like two boys throwing a frisbee or...perhaps two lovers holding hands walking toward the sunset? Then if it doesn't make it too busy, some seaguls in the sky and some shells in the wet sand where the ocean has receded

Hmmm... Maybe make the city skyline more exaggerated or a bit larger to balance out the mass of figures (which have their center of gravity in the man left of center). The lighting looks pretty uniform so far except for the woman at the lower right who appears to be more front lit. (although that could just be an artifact of it being early on in the painting) Where do you imagine the light coming from? Love where its going!

He is a caring doctor and goes out of his way to be extremely helpful, in his tiny way. But because he is so small and diligent in his manner, it takes him much longer to do things. Maybe your reason for an appointment was not big enough for him?

Hi Steve - I think Splashes has done work there, but I forget where and what the murals are. I believe they may have been done by high school splash volunteers.

Hey there BB,
I find this very compelling. It has a similar composition to those Edvard Munch paintings I love so much.
The person on the right is no wall flower. I take it to mean that she is not part of the festive group before her, but is maybe interested in one of the dancers. Perhaps she is watching someone dance that should be with her.
Also, everyone is wearing lighter, festive clothing and the person to the right is wearing very dark, almost black clothing like she is in mourning. To me, it adds to the tension and she seems to have the power of a menacing black widow.
I know I am totally over analyzing this, but I absolutely love paintings that “tell a story” and I am striving to create images like this.
Keep up the great work and if you are going to change the image, why not start a new canvas so you can develop a little series.
